Paris, 1964. Alberto Giacometti, the famous artist, bumps into his old friend, the American critic, James Lord, and asks that he sit for a portrait. Lord isn’t due back in the States for another two days so he happily agrees, little realising what lies in store for him.
Lord discovers that Giacometti’s studio is also his home, where he juggles between his wife Annette and his lover, Caroline, a prostitute. It’s a place where tempers fray, passions spark, and pimps come ransacking in search of payment. Lord gets caught up with Giacometti’s life where his flight home is the least of the great artist’ priorities.
Weeks later, the portrait continues to ebb and flow. Alternating between frustration and elation, our muse finds the key to successfully working together with an artist, and in the end, we witness a genius complete one of his last masterpieces.
