    • Synopsis
    • On April 16th, 1979, one week after winning the Academy Award for Best Director on The Deer Hunter, Michael Cimino started shooting HEAVEN'S GATE. It would prove to be one of the most controversial and least seen motion pictures ever made and it managed to sink an entire studio: United Artists. In the tradition of his previous films like The Battle over Citizan Kane, None without Sin and Hitchcock, Selznick and the End of Hollywood, Epstein's Final Cut tells the story of the most notorious and significant of all Hollywood failures that marked the end of a golden era in American filmmaking: one where the director was seen as the primary creative force.
