    • Synopsis
    • There is an age-old custom called ‘Thalaikoothal’ (involuntary euthanasia), a ghastly form of senicide being practiced secretly in some villages of Madurai and other rural parts of Tamilnadu even to this day. Traditionally it is performed on the old bed-ridden and distressed people with their consent who find living more painful. However, lately, this custom has been misused by some. Children forcefully get rid of their healthy parents for acquiring their property, a government job, or simply because they no longer want them to be a part of their lives, hence getting away with murder.

The story follows the journey of Raghavan, a septuagenarian who at an early age after marriage relocated from Palakkad, a district in Kerala with his wife Janaki to a lesser-known barren hillside village on the outskirts of Madurai in Tamilnadu. Their son Rajendran a stone quarry worker, daughter-in-law Nalini, and granddaughter Thamara live a sustainable life with them in a small mud house. Raghavan who loves nature goes around planting saplings every day since he got settled here, turning the dry land to a wet lush green landscape with trees
