    • Synopsis
    • December 2001. In a small town in northern Argentina, an unemployed family is evicted for lack of payment. Guillermo (42), together with Mónica (38), who is eight months pregnant, and their son Franco (4), leave the town and set out for the city of Córdoba, carrying the only thing they have: a clay oven mounted on a chassis lent to them by a neighbor.

As soon as they start their journey, they lose the only money they have. Crossing the salt mine area, they get a flat tire on their car. A young man from the area gives them help and they manage to continue on their way. The highway police ask for their papers and detain the clay oven. Monica bribes them and they recover it. They arrive in Córdoba, and go to the house of Rosa, Guillermo's mother. But the coexistence is unsustainable. They get a gas station where they can park the truck to sleep there. The chassis is stolen. At that moment, Lucrecia, a false aunt, arrives to fill up with gas and offers them lodging in her house. With her help, the family recovers the oven and gets the pots and some supplies for cooking.

To promote the empanadas, Guillermo calls the TV channels. All the cars that pass by get one as a gift. Many come back for more. They start selling dozens and dozens. The TV mobiles arrive. Monica starts having contractions in the middle of the sale. A journalist takes her to the hospital. With the proceeds they can rent the house on the corner and start the empanada business that will become their salvation.
