    • 25 year old Antonio works in a cafeteria in London. He chose to leave for England from his small town in Sicily, as he was disillusioned by the lack of prospects in his native land and hoped he would find a well paid job and easier life elsewhere. But Antonio finds that the reality of London is very different to his dream of it. With a meagre income, he can barely afford to live, let alone support a girlfriend who he wishes to spoil and impress. Things between Antonio and his childhood sweetheart Paola, who he has left behind in his hometown, begin to turn sour: she wants him to come home to Sicily but he doesn't believe in any possible future there and still hopes that he will make it in the big city. When Paola, finally tired of waiting for him in vain, decides to leave Antonio, he falls into a depression.
Disgruntled, heart-broken and searching for an escape from the tedious routine of his life, he calls up his old friend August – a young, gay trucker living in Berlin – hoping to find a brief respite from his troubles aboard his truck. The two old friends begin a road trip around Europe.
On the road, among the other drivers, they come across Aaron: a flamboyant ex-trucker. Upon offering him a lift: the trio embarks on a journey filled with booze, new encounters, and long evenings with other truckers. Along the way a recurring phrase found on the walls of many a petrol station catches Antonio's and August's attention: ”Not Here Rita”. Aaron knows what is behind the words but is adamant on not explaining it to the two – who have become increasingly curious and obsessed with its hidden meaning. If they want to discover the “true meaning of life” Aaron insists there is only one thing to do: To commit to making the journey to “Not Here Rita” with him...
