- Ikeya, the owner of a small glassworks that is on the verge of bankruptcy, spends day and night polishing a huge lens that is to be used in a new space telescope. He meets Yoko, just as she is about to jump off a bridge in an attempt to take her own life. In fact, Yoko’s father was also a glass worker, and she also knows Ikeya’s sub-manager, Yojiro, who used to work at her father’s factory. Yoko has secretly loved Yojiro since they first met, but Yojiro is too busy trying to save Ikeya’s business from debt to worry about this. He engages the dubious services of liquidators, led by Hirate, who only make the situation worse. However, when the crooks realize that the lens Ikeya is polishing so lovingly is actually worth millions, they fall under its spell, too. “Every lens has its own god of light looking out from it...” Yoko truly understands the passion that Ikeya has for his craft, and, together with Yojiro, they both try to save the little factory from its fate.
