    • Synopsis
    • Joe Mabena is a former fisherman who works as a welder when we meet him. He lives in a sprawling shack with his family, eking out a meager existence in Goed Baai, an informal seaside settlement in Cape Town. He spends much of his time drowning his sorrows at the bottom of a bottle and goes to work under the influence of alcohol. One day his drunkenness prevents him from seeing that his blow torch could ignite a fire and it blows up a gas tank leading to a loss of his eye. The company compensates him and his family and neighbourhood anticipate good times and a better life. But Joe has his own ideas and this leads to conflict.
