    • Synopsis
    • "Don't Hang Up" unfolds in the rural landscape of the Missouri Bootheel, where the isolation and struggles of the community form a backdrop to a tense and emotional drama. The film centers on Elizabeth, a compassionate woman going about her day, when she unexpectedly receives a life-altering phone call. On the other end of the line is Jeremy, a young man in acute distress.  

      As Elizabeth listens to Jeremy, the gravity of the situation becomes chillingly clear: he has taken an overdose of his medication. The film then primarily follows their urgent conversation, a lifeline forged in desperation. Elizabeth, using her empathy and intuition, desperately tries to keep Jeremy talking, to tether him to life, and to glean any information that could help her locate him.  

      While Elizabeth fights to save Jeremy in real-time, the film also delves into Jeremy's internal world. Through fragments of dialogue and glimpses into his memories, we witness his struggles with bipolar disorder, the crushing weight of societal stigma, and the feeling of being misunderstood and alone.  

      "Don't Hang Up" becomes a powerful exploration of human connection in the face of crisis. It highlights the profound impact a single act of compassion can have, even between strangers. The film also offers a poignant commentary on the challenges faced by individuals battling mental illness, particularly in underserved and isolated communities.
