Synopsis
More than 400 years ago, Doñana was an endless hunting ground for kings and nobles. From then until today, this spectacular landscape has undergone numerous transformations. Doñana was classified by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in the 1980s. Today the Doñana Natura Area, with more than 54,000 hectares, is the largest wetland on our continent. It is said that Goya painted Las Majas in the palace of Doñana, that Lawrence of Arabia was filmed in its sands and that the largest organization for the conservation of nature in the world, World Wide Found (WWF), was born. But, above all, Doñana remains the largest bird reserve in Europe and one of the last bastions of the Iberian lynx. Its different ecosystems with mobile dune formations on the coast, river marshes and pine forests dotted with large mastic trees, harbor a biodiversity that place Doñana as one of the largest and best known National Parks in the world.
