Jana embarks on the 1200 km long Finnmarksløpet race. It's the longest dog sled race in Europe. She sets off with a little chance to finish it – she is one of the few women at the start, doesn't live (like the vast majority of the competitors and their dogs) permanently behind the Arctic Circle and her team consists exclusively of purebred huskies, unlike all others who compete with dogs bred for the racing purposes. It's extremely cold there, the polar plains are swept up by a snowstorm time to time, the dogs are falling down in snowdrifts and Jana struggles to keep the last bits of her energy being at the edge of exhaustion. Yet, or just because of that, she feels happy. Jana spends her summer in the Jizera Mountains, Czech Republic, in a house she has inherited after her parents, with thirty dogs. She makes money by organising children's camps and lectures on huskies. She is tired and upset when it's hot and all that keeps her afloat is the idea of going north trying again to conquer the most demanding European dog sled race. Doggy Love is a film about the relativity of happiness and contentment, the journey to one’s dream paved with discomfort that would be unbearable for most people.
