    • Synopsis
    • It was one of the most impassable and deadly barriers that mankind has ever known. It divided a city for 28 years and caused the death of hundreds of people. Producing real testimonials, the documentary film “Die Mauer - Il Muro” brings to life unforgettable stories of determination, courage and faith in the name of freedom and human rights.

The story of the Berlin Wall speaks of violence and dictatorships, but at the same time it celebrates the fate of thousands of people who decided to climb over an unfair and ignoble barrier to win the right to be free.

“Hundreds of people have been killed trying to get to the other side. Somebody really succeeded.”

Within the gloomy corridors of an abandoned old school an actor and an actress lend their voices to a number of eyewitnesses in a series of unforgettable stories of courage, resistance and perseverance. 3D computer reconstructions, historical footage, unseen archival material takes the viewer inside the dramatic events of those who tried to challenge the most famous Wall in the world in a powerful union of theatre and documentary film.

Mixing interviews to real witnesses and reenactment from the actors, the feature film takes the viewer through the most salient phases of the History of the Wall: its construction in August 1961, the first dramatic killings at the Wall, the most incredible escapes, resistance and protest movements until the unexpected fall on the night of November 9, 1989.

“Die Mauer ist weg! The Wall is gone!”

The documentary film “Die Mauer - Il Muro” combines the techniques of the classic documentary and the evocative power of theater to provide a new perspective into the events of the more lethal and insurmountable Wall in history on the thirtieth anniversary of its Fall.
