One day at a gas station Clive bumps into a former professor, the magnetic TREVOR DE BLANC (50s). Although Trevor rants about the gas station owners, Clive dismisses it eager to rekindle their friendship. Clive asks Trevor to come over to his home that is in complete disarray. Seeing the depth of Clive’s despair, Trevor invites Clive to his cabin in the bayou in Cut Off, Louisiana.

After arriving to the cabin Clive continues to drink heavily. The next morning, a dazed Clive recalls the horrific dream he had about his wife. Or was it a dream? Trevor discovers Clive’s schizophrenia medication, and is able to explain away Clive's dream as being a result of mixing alcohol and medication. Trevor explains to Clive that his dreams about his wife are metaphors for his suppressed feelings about her infidelity. Soon, a few unexpected house guests arrive. Clive gives up alcohol to clear his mind and with the help of Trevor is able to not only face his wife's infidelity, but other truths about his marriage that he has been suppressing.
