- Synopsis
- Khadija, a Muslim-American a high school track runner, has set her heart and mind on winning a college scholarship. As a young girl she failed to run fast enough to save her younger brother from a car accident. Now, nineteen-year old Khadija seeks to redeem herself through running and winning. When her classmate Terrence, an All-American high-school football player falls in love with Khadija and she with him, both families go up in arms. Rafik, Khadija’s father encourages Omar, an Egyptian schoolmate of Khadija, to engage his daughter. Tensions between the two rivals escalate into a violent confrontation. Khadija recognizes that Terrence and Omar are nothing but a distraction from her divine calling to compete, she ends both relationships and starts a rigorous training program. The day before the high school championship, Khadija receives a threat from one of Terrence’s racist friends. Khadija must decide between giving up her long-awaited opportunity to win the race or risk being gunned down on the track. Khadija has changed she is no longer a people pleaser but an empowered young woman. Despite being hit in the shoulder on the last lap, she breaks the school record and brings honor to her family
