I have often wondered what keeps my mother, a South-East Asian woman in her 60s, living alone in rural England. After my father died, she was expected to move - but despite the difficulties of country life, she stayed by herself on the land.

Thinking about my mother and her ongoing commitment to my father, and his memory, became the premise for Cold Snap - with a young woman, Anna, at the heart of it. The film traces Anna’s psychic journey as she initially struggles with, and later comes to an understanding, of her mother’s actions.

Cold Snap is my first drama. After making a number of short documentaries, I am excited to be moving into the fiction space with the support of BBC Film, and my producers at Ken Loach's Sixteen Films and Jessica Palmarozza's Flumeri Films.
