    • Coming to a place that at the time, in 2020, looked like it was about to close (and that still struggles today for recognition and survival), a place where women of all ages and backgrounds become – for varying lengths of time – family, and to capture this in fifteen minutes is a challenge. A challenge that director Martina De Tommaso met with concentration, sensitivity and tenacity. Her belief was to disappear behind the camera, but first to enter people’s lives to find the beauty in them. This was not so difficult: it was enough to spend time with them, to have dinner This was not so hard: it was enough to spend time with them, have dinner together, play, listen to them, joke around and let them look after us. This became genuine sharing, life and then cinema. We chose to leave the looming tragedy of a potential eviction as a backdrop and to focus instead on the absolute and poetic normality of the lives of these women spanning three generations. In fifteen minutes, we came up with an exploration of insecurity, of resilience, of family (not blood families, but random families that – like the former – can work out as well as be a disaster). Today, in 2023, Lucha Y Siesta endures. Lucia, Emanuela and Ileana have moved house, while continuing to fight, all of them. And Martina’s gaze is captured in these fifteen minutes, along with all the beauty she has managed to grasp and amplify with her art.
