    • Synopsis
    • CLEAR NIGHTS tells the story of two siblings: Lídia, who is pregnant, and Lauro, who is divorced and works in a funeral home. After giving birth, Lídia starts experiencing postpartum depression. She struggles from a lack of support from those around her, especially from her mother and her husband.

Her mother goes on a trip almost as soon as the baby is born, and her depression strains her relationship with her husband. Lídia doesn’t want to go out or to receive guests at home, and her husband isn’t quite able to support her as he should. He starts going out to dance at clubs to escape the pressure of the situation, which only makes the situation worse for Lídia, as she feels increasingly lonely. She starts feeling that she doesn’t have a life and he does, and that he’s always away when he should be present.

She becomes overwhelmed with the task of taking care of the baby, finding it especially difficult to deal with the constant crying, and starts doubting her ability to be a mother. She also starts going through an identity crisis, feeling disconnected from her body and even from her child.

Her brother Lauro is also going through a very difficult time, albeit for different reasons. His job in the funeral home leads him towards a bad place psychologically, as his constant confrontation with death starts taking a toll on his well-being. He has a difficult relationship with his mother which distances him from his family, and now that he is divorced he feels even lonelier. His light in the world is his relationship with his son, which is seemingly one of the few things that brings him pure joy. Lauro also starts coming to terms with his sexuality, but the process of coming out as bissexual proves to be a difficult one.

Lídia’s pain leads her to want to to get closer to Lauro, who she hasn’t experienced a close relationship with since they both lost their brother, Pedro. This newfound closeness will strengthen both of them, as Lídia encourages Lauro to explore his sexual desires. Meditation and dancing also start becoming a strong relief for Lauro.

Lídia’s relationship with her husband only meaningfully changes after she accidentally overdoses on pills. This event ends up acting as a wake-up call to her husband, who starts becoming a better father and partner. She takes their child to the doctor and finds out that the child is behind on the development of her motor skills. This news motivates her even further to take care of her child and become the best mother she can be.

With time, Lídia starts to get stronger and happier, and her relationship with her husband becomes healthier. They finally feel like they can start living their life with their child with love and happiness.
