    • Synopsis
    • José Lewgoy was one of the most talented and acclaimed actors born in Brazil. From a small town on the extreme South, with mostly italian immigrants, Lewgoy went on to the Drama School of Yale (USA) and later lived in France for 10 years, until 1964. He travelled through decisive moments in the development of the popular cinema movement in the beginning of the 1950's and also the Brazilian ‘Cinema Novo’, mostly in the paramount Glauber Rocha's film, "Terra em Transe".
His memorable characters are in over 100 Brazilian and international productions and almost 30 soap operas and miniseries at Globo network, going from Werner Herzog's ‘Fitzcarraldo’ to independent French movies. He played roles in Cinema, TV and, as himself regretted, not so many plays.
Fully documented with footages from all of his career, the narrative is conducted in a non-chronological sequence that illustrates a period from the 1940‘s to 2000‘s.
His famous characters and special temper together with interviews and his personal recordings unveil the dreams behind the persona, the sweet and sour sides. The movie shows decisive moments with interviews from friends, directors and professional colleagues like Werner Herzog, Millôr Fernandes, Luis Fernando Verissimo, Tonia Carrero and many other players in the Brazilian cultural arena.
