- Synopsis
- 7th grader Alex is in love with Jessica from 8th grade. His relationship to his stepbrother Sean and stepfather John is tenuous. Alex and his best friend Odysseus are bullied by Glenn from special class. Alex’s uncle Stewart, back from Thailand, gives Alex a birthday present: a ninja doll made from checkered cloth which turns out to be alive, possessed by an ancient Japanese spirit. The Checkered Ninja helps Alex resolve his problems: they teach Glenn a lesson, and Alex even scores Jessica. But the Checkered Ninja is on a mission to wreak revenge on cynical toy manufacturer Phillip Eppermint who killed a child laborer in his factory in Thailand. Alex doesn’t wish to participate in the bloody revenge, but has sworn to help the Checkered Ninja, so a bitter match of willpower between the two ensues. Eventually Alex teaches the Checkered Ninja an important lesson: bloody revenge is nothing more than bloody crime, but it’s possible to make the criminal pay for his sins without getting blood on your hands.
