    • Synopsis
    • 1965. The young poet, Vasyl Stus, is becoming increasingly concerned by the disenfranchised position of Ukrainians in the Soviet Union. But where others remain silent, he begins to voice concerns quickly drawing the attention of the KGB.

Making countless sacrifices to his safety and that of his young family, Vasyl’s associations and writing puts him under continual surveillance.

September 1985. Stus's collection of poetry written in a camp for political prisoners has been leaked and is being prepared in the West for the Nobel Prize in Literature. The KGB cannot allow such recognition to draw attention to the "Ukrainian cause" and sends a special agent to the camp. Her mission is to seduce the poet into a bizarre "freedom" at any cost in exchange for him agreeing to reject the nomination.
