    • Synopsis
    • Eve (Anne Coesens) is a paramedic involved in a storybook romance with the handsome and supportive Damien (Sagamore Stévenin, the matador from Catherine Breillat's Romance). Together, they own an unusual country pub that hosts an annual contest for the most talented animal-call impersonators. In a terrifying, thrilling opening scene, Eve's life is altered forever. She is involved in a horrific accident as she attends to a patient in the back of an ambulance. Although the flying glass shards do not cause any lasting damage, the various scars make Eve "psychogenically mute." She develops a stammer so overwhelming she can no longer communicate with her voice. At first, Damien tries everything in his power to rehabilitate her, but she finds it impossible to heal. Eve has become useless in the pub and the object of its patrons' derision, and this begins to grate on Damien. He gradually drifts away from her and into the arms of another woman, the manager of the local brewery. But Eve is unwilling to let him go so easily. In a breathtaking turn of events, she makes him a physical prisoner, caged - like her - against his will. Trying to remove words from the equation, she reintroduces him to the simple pleasures of nature and human flesh. But, as the pub's annual contest approaches - it makes for a surreal and very funny climax - her needs are revealed to be more complex and provocative than the merely sexual.
