    • Synopsis
    • Xabi is on his way to say his last goodbyes to his long-time friend Maria, who is in hospital, dying of an incurable heart disease. Just before he goes in to see her, he finds out that Maria has always been secretly in love with him. Xabi concocts the idea of telling her he feels the same way, to “comfort her in her final hours”.
Maria is so overcome by happiness that, against all the odds, she recovers. Xabi has to go on pretending, because telling her the truth would mean killing her: the doctors warn him that any upset could –literally– break her heart.
What nobody knows is that Xabi already has a girlfriend... and she's pregnant. Xabi has to lead a double life, constantly living on a knife edge. And inevitably, just when he comes to realise that he really has fallen in love with Maria, the two women discover the truth.
Neither of them wants to have any more to do with him. Xabi, now a compulsive liar and desperate to get Maria back, pretends to have been in a car crash and makes her believe that he's close to death. María comes to the hospital to say goodbye. It’s an exact repetition of the opening scene, only with the roles reversed. Maria tells him she's still in love with him. But is she telling the truth? Or is it her who is now lying out of pity? All we know is that when she leans forward to seal her last “farewell” with a passionate kiss, Xabi recovers against all the odds… for the time being, anyway.
