Mattias finds solace and sustenance for his approach to life in the astronaut Buzz Aldrin who, in 1969, on the very day Mattias was born, became the second man to walk on the moon - and later apssed into oblivion. When Mattias lises both his job and girlfriend, he agrees to come along as sound technician for a concert in Torshavn on the Faroe Islands. Hovever, he gets drunk on the ferry, is coaxed into revealing his singing voice, whereupon he loses it completely. He wakes up in a remote landscape on the Faroe Islands. Here he is picked up by Havstein, who runs a rehabilitation centre for the mentally ill in the small town of Gjogv. Here Mattias meets people who accept him as he is, and slowly he develops a new approach to the world - leading to love, a heroic recue and a fantastic boat-building project.
