- In the tradition of 'Like Water for Chocolate', 'Pan’s Labyrinth', and 'Chocolat', Butterflies & Lightning is a sumptuous, romantic, mysterious legend that weaves two stories into one: The tale of two men, Santiago and Roberto, who return to their childhood home bringing with them a dark secret; and a children’s fairytale that mirrors and reveals the men’s past, telling the story of two boys whose friendship ended long ago after tragically fighting over the love of a girl. Unbeknownst to the boys, a curse had been set into motion the night they became blood brothers and sealed their fate: they would forever share the same heart and fall in love with the same women. These two stories weave together fabled past and real present, as the men’s lives are brought together again by the fate they were destined to face and the power of a love they can’t resist.
