- Based on the events and circumstances surrounding the 1982 avalanche in Alpine Meadows, CA. Even 40 years later, the avalanche is regarded to be an extraordinary climatic event that killed seven people, irreparably changing the lives of the young Alpine Meadows Ski Patrol who prior to this, had only experienced a winter wonderland of endless powder and parties. They spent the next five days digging in the snow for co-workers, friends and family; acutely aware that every passing second was precious and life-threatening.
