    • Synopsis
    • Chakra, a 16 year-old Cambodian boy, works the rice fields with his family. He yearns for independence, and meets a broker who can get him paid work in a Thai pineapple factory. Without telling his family, Chakra journeys to Thailand to make his own fortune. But it’s a trick, and the broker sells him to a fishing trawler as a slave.
Chakra - along with other Cambodians and Burmese - is trapped at sea indefinitely, trawling trash fish 22 hours a day on one cup of cold rice. Fellow slaves are tortured and brutally murdered around him, for falling ill or trying to escape. Chakra soon realises that his only hope of freedom is to become as violent as his captors.
