- Synopsis
- Ageing homeless punk rocker, poet, graffiti artist and primate enthusiast Danny Doyle, subsists by couch surfing and selling the ‘Big Issue’ magazine outside Taronga Zoo, where he can indulge in his fascination with monkeys. His younger brother Gerard, a soldier who was wounded in Afghanistan, hasn’t seen Danny or their combative older sister Ros in years, and that’s been fine by him. But Gerard is on the verge of being medically discharged from the Army. So, when Ros contacts them with the news of their mother’s death, and announces their mother’s final wishes for her burial, she also issues an ultimatum – they both need to be at the funeral to say goodbye to mum properly or say goodbye to their share of the estate. Danny refuses, unwilling to return to their childhood home lest he face the demons that haunt him. But Gerard, unwilling to concede his inheritance and unable to drive or fly due to his injuries, pressures his wayward brother to journey home with him, and the two unlikely siblings, begrudgingly hit the road together to meet the deadline for the funeral and claim their fair share of the estate.
