    • Synopsis
    • martin strel is about to begin his insane attempt to be the first person to swim the entire length of the world's most dangerous river, the mighty amazon. martin is an endurance swimmer from slovenia, who swims rivers -- the mississippi, the danube and the yangtze to date -- to highlight their pollution to the world. martin is also in his fifties, rather overweight and drinks two bottles of red wine a day... while swimming. more eccentric than grizzly man, more physically demanding than supersize me and more human than inconvenient truth, big river man is a laugh-out-loud documentary containing a very serious environmental message.
director john maringouin's first film was the uncomfortably intimate documentary running stumbled. maringouin returned to the home of his estranged drug-addled parents to capture their wasted lives on camera. running stumbled was nominated for an independent spirit award in 2008.
