    • Synopsis
    • Big Loop-Small Loop is a gritty fantasy drama, set in a world analogous to the 1970s, USSR. The story takes place in a familiar but non-existent Baltic city where a minority of elf-like creatures hide amongst the people, only emerging in secret at night. These creatures are seen as a dangerous threat to society.

Paulius (22) is an ambitious and dedicated architecture student who moved from the countryside to attend the prestigious Technical University. He lives in a crowded communal apartment with his aunt. Transition to city life has been made easier by the guidance of his streetwise classmate Sabina and the mentorship of his favorite teacher, Professor Kalns.

Paulius is a member of a communist youth group, led by Sabina, that has decided to begin hunting these terrifying elf-like creatures in parks and back alleys at night. Paulius joined this vigilante gang because of his allegiance to Sabina. However, while he doesn’t enjoy the violence, he full-heartily believes that they are helping to protect society from evil.

Paulius and Sabina are informed by Professor Kalns that they have been selected for a prestigious postgraduate posting; their futures look bright. That night, during their first mission in the park - Paulius comes face-to-face with one of the creatures. To his horror, the creature is a transformed Professor Kalns. Shocked, Paulius cannot bring himself to say anything, as he lets Kalns escape.

The film culminates when the vigilante group again goes on a hunt, this time catching and brutally attacking the transformed Kalns. Paulius is forced to finally decide if he should stand up for the moral system he has been taught, or his inner intuition. However, as the moment of decision arrives, Paulius finds himself not only undertaking a moral transformation, but a physical one as well.
