- Synopsis
- ALICE is a scientist who likes fact. JAY is a hesitant spiritualist. They meet in a pub in the ancient city of York just before Christmas, and bond over a love of David Bowie in Labyrinth. With some prompting from a seemingly possessed digital display board at the train station, Jay decides to spend Christmas with Alice (and the benign entity she apparently shares her home with). Jay confesses his mediumship abilities, but Alice is skeptical. So their relationship begins. Next Christmas is spent in the Lake District. Jay senses a strange premonition of doom, but shakes off the worrisome interpretation of it. He proposes marriage at an ancient stone circle. By the third Christmas Jay has indeed died. Alice is pregnant with his baby. During this sorrowful yuletide, she faces all her doubts and opens up to the possibility that he may be communicating with her from the spiritual realm. A festive triptych love story, BETWEEN THE LIGHTS addresses the mysteries of the cosmos and the question of life after death.
