    • Synopsis
    • Teddy, hyper-
sensitive and eager to please, was a
      popular and deeply beloved basketball
player who thrived in high school and
never wanted to leave. Lloyd, prone to
bitterness and overly defensive, was an
      extremely reserved and all but
friendless artist who felt invisible in high
school and couldn't wait to actually
disappear from that place. A decade after having graduated together (but not having known each other), Teddy and Lloyd are both depressed, disappointed, and simply going through the motions. After a falling out with his then best friend and teammate Billy during senior year, Teddy had gotten caught up in excessive partying and wound up throwing away his chance at a basketball career. Billy is now an NBA sensation while Teddy tends bar, pines for his glory days, and tries to bury his pain with booze and marijuana. Lloyd, having developed a relationship with his high school crush and fellow art enthusiast Lisa while in college, had put aside his dreams of being a world-renowned painter when his focus became set solely on settling down and maintaining his marriage with Lisa. Now divorced and ineptly teaching art at the very high school that he'd been so anxious to escape from, Lloyd is unwilling to deal with his feelings and attempts to numb himself with anti-depressants on a daily basis. At their ten year high school reunion (which Teddy attends eagerly and Lloyd begrudgingly goes to at the behest of his therapist), Teddy and Lloyd, acknowledging their mutual despair, strike up a friendship. Days later, after having bonded further over their respective sorrows, Teddy and Lloyd decide that they can no longer just sit idly by on the sidelines. Fed up with being frustrated and feeling like they've over-complicated their lives to the point of stagnancy, Teddy and Lloyd decide to set a clear, "simple" goal for themselves: to be awesome. As they set about trying to achieve that goal and, by doing so, figure out what it even means to be awesome, they open themselves back up to people and the possibilities and question what it is that they each truly have to offer. BEING AWESOME' is a story about seeking the kind of validation that we all ultimately need and discovering what it truly means, in all aspects of life, to be a success.
