- Synopsis
- In 1595, a series of witch trials emerged in the villages around the Strabrecht heath.
  Heylken (28), a young self-confident woman, uses her playful sense of rhythm and song as a handhold in the dark world the women live in. She lives alone, herding her sheep on the moors and selling the eggs from her chickens in the village. She is getting ready to go on a journey, which she is very much looking forward to.
  When a cow is sick, the villagers gather around it to bless the beast. Heylken leads the way in saying the verses and turns them into a song in her own way, confident as she is and with her great love of singing. Griet (12), a playful young girl, squirms between Heylken and her friend Neele (35). She looks up to Heylken and loves being around her.
