    • Synopsis
    • London, just before Christmas. Amal, an ambitious architecture graduate from Baghdad, is working as a waitress in a little cafe. Only her close friend Taufiq knows that she falsely claimed asylum in England as a persecuted Christian. In reality, she was fleeing her violent husband. Her secret is safe with the poet Taufiq, who for his part is battling with his conscience: back in Iraq, he betrayed his own brother under torture. After his brother’s death, he took care of his nephew Nasseer. Lately, however, Nasseer has been turning increasingly towards radical Islam and alienating himself from his atheist uncle. Muhanad also seeks refuge in the cafe. The computer specialist only recently left Baghdad to escape the threat posed to homosexuals there. Taufiq and his friends help him out with small IT jobs while Muhanad still does not dare to come out and introduce his German lover. Moreover, Amal’s life is in danger when her ex-husband suddenly turns up in London. And the Salafist preacher at the mosque forces Nasseer to take sides and then take action against the „godless“ at the cafe…
