    • Synopsis
    • Kay, in her mid-thirties, was an impulsive singer until she had a serious car accident caused by her ex-fiancé Sebastian, who subsequently broke off their engagement. Kay lost her sight and has lived in seclusion in Berlin ever since, where she prevents new relationships. She only speaks the news on the jazz station.

Falk is a widower and single father to his 8-year-old Carla. He earns his living as a taxi driver. He has fallen in love with Kay's voice and listens to the jazz station every chance he gets. Falk loves life and enjoys it in all its facets. Carla loves her father, but misses her deceased mother very much. One day Kay, his voice, gets into his taxi. But he is not prepared for Kay's mistrust.

Pan was diagnosed with macular degeneration at the age of nine and has been severely visually impaired ever since. He can no longer see clearly and has difficulty recognising faces. Pan is gay and lives alone with his dog Lilly. He works as a piano tuner and loves classical music, especially Bach. He loves silence, long walks with Lilly and his work. The only thing missing from his little happiness is a life partner.

Till, owner of a small antique shop specialising in African art, lives with his partner Antje. However, it is more of a coexistence, as Till does not admit to himself that he is actually attracted to men. Till dreams of a family with children and represses his homosexuality until Pan tunes his piano.

Elena is a self-confident therapist with a dry sense of humour. She mainly works with blind and visually impaired people. Elena herself still has two per cent vision - her fear of losing it overshadows her entire everyday life. She panics when she thinks about being or becoming dependent on other people. In this respect, she tries to simply ignore her disability until Benjamin becomes her patient.

Benjamin is completely blind from birth and grew up in a boarding school. When he had to leave this "cocoon", he took his "grey friends" with him. These imaginary grey friends never leave his side and are the reason why his boss - the owner of Falk's taxi company - sends him to Elena for therapy. The question soon arises: who is actually treating whom here?

"At Second Glance" is a laconic love story about six people who seek and find each other in the big city of Berlin, each with their own idiosyncrasies.
