    • Synopsis
    • “And So I Said” is a biographical drama about four months in the life of the Bulgarian spiritual leader and social reformer Peter Deunov (1864-1944), who founded an esoteric school with about 30,000 followers and disciples. History recognizes him as a spiritual mentor, whose sobriquet was the Master. All persons, events, dates, and locations are historically authentic. The story begins on May 4th and winds up on August 19th, 1936. The film narrative is composed of two parallel storylines – the painful mental and physical transfiguration of Deunov and the desperate wandering of the provincial teacher Dobrev, broken-hearted by a sense of guilt for the death of his child.

It is during the first half of the 20th century that Peter Deunov evolves to become a powerful figure in Bulgaria. He develops an original reformist doctrine that espouses the spiritual, moral and cultural values of European Christianity.

His life between the two World Wars unfolds in an unusual and excitingly dynamic way; lonely and detached from any tradition, Deunov confronts the demonic drama of his time with thousands of sermons of Love, Wisdom and Truth that provide guidance for self-realization through music and plastic movements, living in social synergy of brotherhood and sisterhood. Although supported by 30 000 of his disciples and followers, in 1936 he becomes a victim of his enemies. Even though The Master was beaten and paralyzed, his spiritual might resuscitated him, restored his health, and enabled him to continue pursuing his mission of spiritual mentor and religious reformer.

The plot of the film draws on all these events that occurred in the aftermath of the tragedy that struck Deunov in 1936. After his victory the influence of his ideas resonates throughout Europe and the world, his doctrine becomes widespread and reaches Japan, Canada and South Africa, and his personality continues to captivate the minds of his contemporaries as the archetype of a true spiritual hero and The Master of Love.
