- Ambivalent Future provides an intimate portrait of the filming of Bright Future. But more than that it provides a rare and candid look at the unique working process of Japan’s foremost director. Mirroring the style of its subject, scenes from the surprisingly low key and relaxed production of Bright Future reveal the multifaceted approach of Kurosawa’s filmmaking and illustrate the level of collaboration from the actors, producers and many others on the production. What is most surprising is the intimacy and openness with which we see the normally reclusive and private Kurosawa reflecting on his work and philosophy.
