The emotions of the supporters regarding the participation of women in the “Alarde” parades of Irun and Hondarribia, and the emotions of the opponents of the same celebration are idendical. This will be the guiding line around which the story ALARDEAREN SEME-ALABAK will be told. The pageant in both towns takes place over one long day, and this day becomes the focal point of our story. The first part of the film explores the history of the Alarde from its origins, its “mise-en-scene”, its composition and characteristics. The second part unravels the trigger of the social conflict and its development in the early years, in the 90s. The third part of our story covers more recent events, in 2011 and 2012. We see the current situation of “the Alardes” and reflect on the present and future of the celebration. The protagonists whose feelings and thoughts are revealed will also guide us. In Irun: Ainhoa Ruiz de Arbulo, the General in the mixed parade, and José Ramón Otaegui, who has been Capitan of the Artillery in the traditional parade for many years. In Hondarribia: Ixabel Alkain and Garoa Lekuona, both of whom have been captains of the mixed company “Jaizkibel” at various times, as well as José Manuel Susperregui, lecturer at the University of the Basque Country and a supporter of the traditonal parade. In addition, the sociologist Xabier Kerexeta and the anthropologist Margaret Bullen provide a scientific approach to the story.
