    • Synopsis
    • “From every trip I make, even the small ones, I return as through from a dream full of dreams: a torpid confusion, with sensations stuck between each other, drunk from what I’ve seen”. The words of Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa can serve as a guide to this documentary that follows three female friends from the other side of the world –one Argentinian, one Chilean, and one Bolivian– on their journey through a neighboring but alien country, Peru. A trip that is also an inebriating discovery: of chicha, an ancestral alcoholic beverage that comes from fermented corn, and the “chicherías” or “picanterías”, establishments where it is consumed in long tables shared by patrons from all social conditions. With the help of the “mamacha” Guillermina, a custodian of the chicha tradition, Ajawaska. Fragments of a Journey to the Heights involves (and involves us) little by little in conversations and anecdotes, the carnival and its picturesque rituals, baptisms, and drunkenness.
