    • Synopsis
    • Some puzzling data has been uploaded at random onto the internet, and just as quickly erased.
Now a man is found dead, with a bank bundle of burned ¥10,000 notes scattered around him, bringing together detective Kenichi Itami, from Section 1 of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigation Department, and Akira Iwatsuki, a computer specialist from the Cybercrimes Unit. The dead man is Yugo Nakayama, of the Systems Section of Tokyo Meiwa Bank, who has been under investigation by Cybercrimes for hacking and leaking confidential data. For Itami, this is a murder investigation; for Iwatsuki, the crime is hacking. Reluctantly working together, they press on with their search until sudden pressure from above brings it to a halt.
‘A man’s dead!’ Itami’s sense of justice is outraged. How will they catch the killer now?
Meanwhile an examination of the data pulls Ukyo Sugishita and the other investigators deeper into the situation. Behind it is the enormous weight of the government’s financial authorities, and a plan called ‘X-Day’, where the financial system will be deliberately shut down. Unaware of this, Itami and Iwatsuki grow more and more impatient. ‘What are we fighting?’
Will a quick-tempered detective and a computer specialist be able to track down a murderer?
And what speculation by the government and financial industry percolates away underneath it all?
