- Synopsis
- MAYVEN (16) is an ordinary teenager from a modest background. She unthinkingly consumes teen products, wishes she had more money, and moons after a boy whose higher social class makes him unattainable.
  Then one day she is accidentally exposed to the lethal viruses that are a permanent feature of her world. The event should kill her – but she survives. She is an Immune. Her antibodies could make a vaccine that would release humanity from its prison.
  But society has given up its basic freedoms just to stay healthy. And the Government is not going to relinquish its invisible tyranny. Mayven’s existence threatens the status quo. So she has to die. At the same time, the world’s largest corporation wants to abduct Mayven and manufacture a vaccine exclusively for the very rich.
  With goons from both parties after her, Mayven’s only hope is DURY, an embittered member of the Resistance. Dury had been manipulated into killing the previous Immune. To redeem himself he has to get Mayven to the only independent lab that can disseminate the vaccine freely. Mayven doesn’t like or trust Dury, but the lab is a long, long way away, and the two groups hunting them will stop at nothing.
  During the action-packed chase through a dangerous world that is both familiar and very different, Mayven will see her family arrested, her would-be boyfriend murdered, and learn that everything she believes is a lie. Her coming of age is both brutal and epic. And when the mission is faced with failure, Dury is forced to make the ultimate sacrifice.
