    • Synopsis
    • Juana attends a private school where she receives English lessons.
She uses a pristine uniform just like the rest of her schoolmates.
Seating in her desk, she’s looking at the board, but her
eyes point out far beyond that green surface.
Juana doesn’t say much, and laughs when she’s not supposed
to. Her parents and teachers are worried for her low academic
performance and the apparent lack of interest about everything.
Juana is a mystery for those around her. But she’s not indifferent
to everything: some people and situations may offer her a solution
to wake her up from that state.
Martín Shanly takes risky decisions in his first film: he chooses a
mysterious world to observe, the one of a pre-teen girl. And also
takes the risk of recreating a certain recent past. But he never,
ever lets himself be dominated by melancholy or a tribute-spirit,
and he doesn’t get lost in strange territories either. His resolutions
reinforce the accomplishments of one of the most sensible
first films we’ll see this year.
