- Synopsis
- Haruo Todoroki (Yo Oizumi) is a 39 year-old magician, who works at a dingy magic club in Tokyo. As younger magicians from the club gain their popularity on TV shows, Haruo becomes more and more disgusted with his poor, drab life. He begins to think that his life is not worth living, with no loved one, not even family - his mother left him when he was a baby, and he has not seen his father for more than 10 years. One day, he receives a call from the police telling him that his father was found dead in a park. He is asked to come and pick up the belongings of his father. And there, he finds out that his father was homeless. He stops by his father’s cardboard house on his way home. Feeling as if he is looking at his own future, tears run from his eyes, “Why was I born …” And there comes a bolt from the blue. One lightening-bolt appears in the blue sky and hits him. When he wakes up, he realizes that he is in the world 40 years ago. Not knowing what to do, he walks into a performance venue in Asakusa and starts to make his living by performing his magic on the stage. There he meets a young magician Shotaro (Gekidan-Hitori) and his assistant girl Etsuko (Ko Shibasaki), who turns out to be his father and his mother! Haruo, of course concealing his identity, happens to team up with his father to perform magic. He gradually becomes used to living there, and days seem to pass quietly, until Etsuko becomes pregnant. The coming baby is, needless to say, Haruo himself. As his birthday approaches, Haruo begins to discover secrets of his parents which he had never expected - the reason his mother had to leave her family, the hard times his father went through, and above all, the strong love his parents had for their son… On the day of his birth, again, a bolt strikes from the blue. Now back in the present time, he encounters a man, who reveals another heartwarmingly pleasant truth.
