    • A Beautiful Imperfection tells the empowering story of Lucia, Giacomo Casanova’s only great love, who leaves Italy for Amsterdam after her face has been disfigured by smallpox. Sixteen years later, they meet again when she has reinvented herself as a veiled courtesan now known by the name of Galathée. Without revealing her true identity or showing her face, Lucia and Giacomo become lovers once again. Will Lucia dare to reveal herself and turn her weakness into her strength so that she can be truly free in the eyes of her great love?

Michiel van Erp (“Open Seas”, “Stromboli”, and the award-winning series “Ramses”) directed the English-language romantic drama which tells the story of the love affair between a young woman and the Italian adventurer and libertine Giacomo Casanova. The executive producer is none other than the internationally acclaimed photographer Erwin Olaf.
Van Erp created a modern version with a strong female character, set against the stunning backdrop of Venice. A Beautiful Imperfection is based on the historical novel “In Lucia’s Eyes” by Arthur Japin, which has been published in over 20 languages. Universally praised by the critics, the book won the Libris Literature Prize, the most prestigious literary prize in The Netherlands, in 2004 and has sold more than a million copies worldwide. Jonah Hauer-King (“The Little Mermaid”) is cast in the role of Giacomo Casanova and Dar Zuzovsky (“Hostages”), his first and greatest love, as the courtesan Galathée.
Produced by Maarten Swart for Kaap Holland Film in association with Eyeworks Film & TV Drama and Italy’s Kino Produzioni, the film has received backing from the Netherlands Film Fund, Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), CoBo Fund and the broadcaster AVROTROS.
