    • Synopsis
    • Caroline, a Parisian aged around 40, arrives in a sleepy valley on the Black Mountain, southwest France. She has cut short her family vacation to organize the funeral of her mother, Isabelle, who has died suddenly. They were not close.

Caroline is greeted by Pattie, also in her forties, and who looks after Isabelle’s house. Around these parts, folk get by on not very much, but they seem to have a lot of fun – especially at this time of year when village dances are held as part of the summer tradition.

Caroline had planned on leaving the next day, but then her mother’s body mysteriously disappears. The gendarmes investigate, exploring the most outlandish theories. Meanwhile, Pattie gives Caroline some detailed, ribald accounts of her many passionate encounters at the local dances.

Caroline finds herself immersed in another world, one which resembles the fairy tales that make little girls dream, or else scare the hell out of them.
