    • Synopsis
    • 1868, during the Boshin War, in Japan’s Hokuriku region. After the fall of the Shoguns, Japan is split into two. The nation’s last civil war is under way, and great changes are coming.
“The New Imperial Army” of the recently restored Emperor is driven by a strong sense of mission to create a new era in Japanese history. Supporters of the Shogun, now officially in rebellion against the Emperor, are demoralized, quarreling among themselves. The Shibata Domain, trying to steer a course between the two sides, is pressured into manning the fortress that controls a mountain pass to thus stop the advance of The New Imperial Army force.
Imprisoned in the town are 11 criminals, condemned for such crimes as murder, gambling, arson, smuggling, and adultery. They are offered freedom in exchange for risking almost certain death to defend the fort by any means they can find.
Believing in this promise of acquittal, they unite for the sake of the Shibata domain, advancing together and helping each other. Amidst the roar of gunfire and the rain of bullets and slashing swords, the eleven go head-to-head with death in fierce battle with both the enemy and their own obsessions over such things as “pride” or to protect a loved one back in the town.
This is an entertainment depicting in stark detail a fierce battle taking place in the shadows of the greatest civil war in modern Japanese history, an epic destined to be passed down to future generations.
