The London Korean Film Festival began in 2006 with 12 films, director Kwak Kyung-taek’s Typhoon was the opening film, and approximately 1,000 people attended the festival that year. In 2007 we presented 15 films, and so with each year the festival has gradually grown. In 2015 for the 10th edition, we screened a staggering 52 films, which is quite remarkable for a foreign language national film festival. The festival has played a pivotal role in the promotion of Korean culture in the UK “introducing” Korean cinema to audiences who have seen the reputation overseas continue to grow since the mid-2000s.
