Description
Born in San Juan, Joel Pérez Irizarry developed his visual language photographing Old San Juan's streets before studying at London Film School under Mike Leigh. His literature background and influences from both Caribbean cinema—particularly Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titón)—and Latin American directors like Lucrecia Martel shaped his award-winning shorts "Sheepdog" and "Tokío." Part of Puerto Rico's emerging cinema movement, he has dedicated his career to authentic island storytelling.
