AFLAM

Description

Since its foundation in 2000, Aflam has worked to promote Arab cinema in all its forms in Marseille and throughout the Mediterranean region. Every year, various cinemas and cultural venues in Marseille host Aflam’s annual film festival called Les Rencontres internationales des cinémas arabes. Showcasing over 40 films by directors from across the Arab world and diaspora, the festival also features sections dedicated to the work of pioneering Arab filmmakers and non-Arab filmmaker.

Objective

Every month Aflam’s programme Les Ecrans d’Aflam brings hundreds of spectators to screenings and debates in cinemas around Marseille. The association also regularly organises once-off events such as open-air screenings and programmes highlighting the cinema of individual Arab countries. Aflam’s screenings showcase emerging talent in Arab cinema and are organised to be accessible to the largest audience possible, in particular to people with generally limited access to cultural events.
