    • Synopsis
    • On September 20, 1988 at the age of 19, Tara Calico, a promising University of New Mexico sophomore disappeared 150 yards from the Rio Communities golf course near her home in Belen, New Mexico.
Up until 10 years ago her case was believed to be a kidnapping and received extensive coverage on 48 hours, A Current Affair, Unsolved Mysteries, America’s Most Wanted, Inside Edition, The Rolonda Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
On June 15th, 1989, a Polaroid of an unidentified young woman and a boy, bound and gagged was found in a parking lot at a convenience store in Port St. Joe, Florida. There has been much speculation and debate on whether the young lady in the photo is that of Tara Calico.
After the photo was found the case on Tara had seem to have gone cold. It wasn’t until the 20th anniversary of Tara’s disappearance in 2008 that the Valencia County News Bulletin published an article stating that Rene Rivera, Sherriff of Valencia County, knew what happened to Calico. Rivera states, he knows the names of the then boys involved, and the parents who covered up the crime. However, without a body or some type of evidence the District Attorney will not bring the case to trial.
We follow the director, Melinda Esquibel, as she starts to uncover the truth about what happened to her former classmate and friend and the danger that soon follows in telling a secret that has been buried for twenty three years!
