    • Synopsis
    • It’s summer of 1982, in a farm in a suburb of a small city, there live Mónica (aged 30), her two little daughters, Lara (aged 5) and Lucía (aged 7), her mother-in-law, Magda (aged 60) and her brother-in-law, El Negro (aged 28). Daniel, her husband, has been a political prisoner for six years. The family routine takes place in the tense environment of the time. Early in the morning of the 6th of January, Lucía, excited about the presents, gets up and sees Daniel (aged 32), who was released on the Eve of Epiphany, returning home. When Mónica sees him, she hugs him but the girls are reluctant to their father, who is almost a strange person to them. After looking for a job unsuccessfully, Daniel finds Mónica’s little savings and decides to invest the money in setting up a greenhouse of edible mushrooms. Daniel tells Magda and Mónica about his project and his wife is upset because he didn’t ask her opinion alone. However, Daniel convinces her about the feasibility of the business so she finally agrees. El Negro disagrees with the project since the supply of water is scarce and boycotts the setting up of the greenhouse. Daniel realizes so the brothers punch each other and El Negro leaves the farm. Lara falls off her bike, which was a gift from Daniel, and despite the fact that she is not physically injured, she says she cannot walk and even some days after, she remains in bed although Mónica encourages her to do so and despite Daniel’s anger. Lucía thinks her uncle can heal Lara and begs him to come back. El Negro returns and Lara runs towards him.A pipe breaks and floods the greenhouse. The area where the mycellium of the mushrooms had been sowed floats over all the surface and spoils the business. As a consequence, Daniel, devastated, drowns in alcohol. Mónica, fed up with the situation, scolds him and he promises to change. Mónica enrols in university to restart her career. An old professor recommends Daniel for a teaching position in Patagonia. Daniel accepts the job without talking to Mónica about it, and exited about the new job, tells her that they have 15 days to move. Mónica, amazed at the fact she had not been asked about such an important issue, replies she has to think about it.Daniel travels alone and Mónica moves to a new house with the girls. Lying in a hammock, they look at the stars.
