Over 500 Italo-Western -or Spaghetti-Western- were release in 20 years and revived the Italian film industry after the sword and sandal era ended. This specific genre originated in the early 1960's and acquired fame with Sergio Leone's A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE and ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST. Ennio Morricone created a new stile of film music. Characters like DJANGO, SABATA, SARTANA and NAVAJO JOE gained great popularity and were copied dozens of times. Bud Spencer and Terence Hill added humor and are cult figures today. But, what is it that made these films so popular?
